Anyone remember the deeply mysterious Auguste Ciuksaite who was profiled almost two months ago (well two months to the day, as of tomorrow)? Well Maud and Penelope at FDIB were kind enough to update us all on her development. It seems as if Auguste now has a last name, and an agency in Milan, Elite. I still think Auguste is perhaps one of the strongest new Lithuanian girls at the moment, and I truly hope her time in Milan is well spent. More than anything, I'm desperately hoping that someone in Paris picks her up as soon as possible to start really developing this girl (sentiments echoed flawlessly over at FDIB).

Auguste still maintains that dark stare even in layers of sequins, and I appreciate that. Yes, I know that there have been one too many brooding, long-faced brunettes as of late, but that should be changing this week. Thanks again to Maud and Penelope for cluing me in on Auguste's developments. You girls are wonderful!

In Bloom: Magalie Daignault

Apparently we're in for a heat wave in New York; supposedly into the 90s over the weekend. It's that kind of sticky summer reference point that leads perfectly into tonight's fresh face. Magalie from Chantale Nadeau in Canada, and now at Trump, just reads like a hot summer afternoon. The kind of afternoon where you never showered that morning, and still smell like tequila and cigarettes from the night before. Or at least that's how my Sunday afternoons feel.

I wish I could take all of the credit for this analogy, but as I was preparing to blog about Magalie, my hilarious friend (and often partner in crime) Julio had this brilliant description that had me in stiches: "I tend to like things a bit more fooked up during the summer months. Magalie fits right in. She looks like she hasn't seen a shower in a week, those acid-washed jeans have a stronger smell of cig than Miss Havisham and her walk probably sucks. I love her. Plus I'm loyal to the core when it comes to Chantale Nadeau." Well said, indeed.

Brilliant and altogether aspirational during these summer months. Magalie is the kind of dark and mysterious beauty that I have always found promising (read: Florence Desmidt, Amanda Laine, Virginia Guidetti). A little bit awkward and a bit hippie in her appeal. I'm dying to see Magalie styled in a shawl and moccasins, aren't you?

This Canadian beauty stands at 5'11" and has a set of 32-23-33 measurements. According to Chantale Nadeau, Magalie has already been booked for a story with Greg Kadel in Numero, and if the other options I've heard mention of are true, much, much more. Magalie just might be your new summer sensation.

Fresh Faced: Nadya Konstantinova

Remember that really cheesy song from They Might Be Giants? The one where Istanbul is no longer Constantinople? That's pretty much the only thing I can hear in my head when I read Nadya Konstantinova's last name to myself. Randomness aside, Nadya is the latest testament to the success of Eskimo models and their global scouting concept (think Heloise Guerin and Daria Bichevina). Nadya is quite an unusual model in so much that her intense features are in perfect balance with her youthful demeanor; creating a very strong and yet playful aesthetic.

Sure, her digitals may not be the most inspired in the world, but the sheer potential of a girl as unique as Nadya is undeniable. Something about her square face, heavy (almost savage) brow line, and sullen stare makes this 17 year old Russian instantly memorable in my eyes.

Nadya is 5'9" and has a set of 31.5-23-33.5 measurements, which should make her a candidate for the runway sometime in the future. Here's hoping that Nadya is in New York and ready come September. I for one certainly wouldn't mind watching Nadya and fellow Eskimo model (and former Jil Sander exclusive, mind you) Daria Bichevina rack up some runway mileage come S/S 09.

I love a steady stream of polaroids, especially when they capture one of my favorite new models. Virginia Guidetti is back and comes equipped with a seriously beautiful new set of polaroids from Next. Take a look for yourself:

Seriously, the Danielle Zinaich similarities are haunting in some of those polaroids, especially in the brows and lips. Hopefully Virginia's career will be littered with just as much successful as Danielle's was a decade ago.

Fresh Faced: Liza Serpova

You know what I adore most about LMA Models in Russia? Aside from having an excellent and continually unique taste in the girls they represented, LMA knows how best to showcase their fresh faces for scouts and model enthusiasts like myself. There's no obscene airbrushing that renders the girls unrecognizable (read: IMG Paris), just simple and strong digitals to let you appreciate their beauty in the most natural of ways.

Sure, Liza Serpova might be a little sweeter than I typically go for in a model, but her digitals were the perfect sales pitch. You see, instead of trying to sell me on the idea of Liza as a model, LMA has highlighted all the things that make Liza unique: her luminescent eyes, powerful mouth and jawline, and that Rapunzel-like hair.

I am well aware that there is a slight Marina Panova similarity in the eyes. However, with that long mess of hair Liza reads visually like a modern day fairytale gone awry, making her quite unique in my eyes. While Liza is only 5'9" she certainly has a set of measurements made for modeling, 30-22-33.

What can I say, sometimes after focusing so intensely on hard edges and serial killer stares, you need something a bit sweeter, like Liza.

In Bloom: Allyson Ertel

Behold the lovely and effortless Allyson Ertel; one of the newest additions to Elite's development board in New York. A month ago, I thought that Charlotte O'Donnell was one of the only truly promising new faces for Elite, but Allyson has certainly changed my mind. There's a very particular grace and serenity in Allyon's face that seems to be piercing through each photo.

That level of effortless, and almost Edwardian, beauty is just uncanny nowadays. Not to mention that Allyon's profile is just as intoxicating as her face is from the front. With those timeless features and her gorgeous bow-shaped lips, I for one will be watching to see Allyson's development in the months before the S/S 09 shows in September. Because in addition to have a stellar face, this kid also has a body that does not quit.

Allyson stands tall at 5'11" and boasts an impeccable set of 32-23-35 measurements (though her hips look smaller than a 35" to me). I know this is a brief profile, but sometimes the pictures can more appropriately speak for themselves without my textual support. Enjoy!

In Bloom: Virginia Guidetti

After a half-assed profile on Arielle Pytka's recent success, I figured it was about time to actually profile a new face. And while their website may still be down, but Next's Modelwire account is still alive and kicking. Thank god for that because otherwise it may have taken me months to stubble across Virginia Guidetti; a girl far too special to overlook.

From her glassy green eyes, to those incredible Danielle Zinaich like brows, Virginia is definitely one of my favorite new faces of late. Sure she looks a bit like Brittany Jursic at Elite, but there's something about Virginia's presence, even in these digitals, that I find far more captivating. Perhaps its a subtle confidence, or a youthful ambition, but there is definitely a lot lingering behind her eyes. Regardless of what that certain something is, Virginia has certainly won me over in a big way.

Virginia is 5'10.5" tall and has a serious set of 31-23-34 measurement. A year ago, I never thought I would be seeing this kind of fresh talent just waiting to be developed from Next. However, as we all know, the industry is quite cyclical. Now lets sit idly by and hope that Next can manage this girl to the fullest of her potential.

In Bloom (Finally!): Arielle Pytka

Where have I been? Well, not to be cliche but I really suppose that's the 'one secret I'll never tell.' Then again, I'm not doling out secrets or insider gossip here, save to say I've moved on up in the world which explains for the lengthy delay between posts. Oh, and it also explains why my first post back is a going to be so half-assed.

Remember Arielle Ptyka? Ford Models in Europe highlighted her on the MDC Feed almost a year ago, with a set of stunning digitals that showcased this girl's incredible appeal and aspirational sense of personal style. I would be lying if I said I didn't instantly start tying things to my wrists after I saw her shots in June of last year.

With that incredibly squared face, and her beautifully downtrodden eyes, it was literally love at first site where Arielle is concerned. After months of waiting for something to happen, and blindly speculating two seasons in a row that she was being held for a Calvin Klein exclusive (and it would have made sense, no?), Arielle has finally made her runway debut. It may have only been a resort show, but it was still for Dior and our little (actually she's about 6'0" tall) Arielle nearly closed the show.

With her recent runway debut, and an alarmingly beautiful nude jewelery spread in the latest Muse Magazine, this California surfer girl (by way of Poland mind you) is finally starting to generate the buzz that she so rightly deserves. More over, self-proclaimed 'head modelizer' herself Romney Leader was nice enough to also profile Arielle on the Style File blog. They may steal all of our model IDs for their slideshows, but publicity is publicity and Arielle certainly deserves it.

In Bloom: Mirte Maas

Did I ever explain the differentiation between "Fresh Faced" and "In Bloom?" I don't believe that I actually did. Well, basically those that are "Fresh Faced" have not been signed international, those that are "In Bloom" have. Get it? It's really just some trite way to continue the 'fresh' motif, and a wonderful homage to one of my favorite Nirvana songs of all time.

Now back in January or February of this year, before O2W was made public via MDC, I was talking with my friend Julio about Mirte Maas. There wasn't much to share about this 17 year old Dutch girl (from MTA models) at the time, but when I realized that she'd been signed with Supreme in NYC, I figured it was time to profile her. That being said, meet Mirte:

Mirte has that rare kind of clean, strong and unusual beauty that always resonates with me (and hopefully the casting directors for CK and Jil Sander). Not to mention that she has some of the most sensational eyes I have seen in a long time. Topped off of course with those Mariya Markina-esque brows. Sure there is a slight Malin Ones comparison to be made, but Mirte succeeds in not appearing dead behind the eyes.

Honestly, how incredible is this girl? Plus with her 5'10" frame and 31.5-24-35 measurement, Mirte could be a wonderful addition to the Supreme board in time for the S/S 09 show season. I love it when the communicative aspect of fashion, which equally entices and informs, leads to such beautiful personal discoveries. Thanks to the entire team at O2W for providing me with more information on this truly sensational face.

Edited To Add: After all the craziness since profiling Mirte, it remains to be seen if she's actually signed with Supreme. That piece of information was taken off of her O2W profile an hour after this post was made. Either way, I stand behind Mirte's potential and hope that someone will sign this girl soon enough in NYC.

Fresh Faced: Kaila Wilson

Another Canadian? I would feign shock, but we all know that they're everywhere nowadays. Much like the current fashion week going on in Australia (much more on that, and the faces from down-under, later), L'Oréal Fashion Week in Canada provided a glimpse of the future talent sitting pretty at some of the best mother agencies in Canada. One of my favorite faces from the shows was the completely unique Kai (and her amazing hair) from Sutherland Models.

Sure, Kai has the insanely luxurious mane of hair to add to her appeal (and I'll be honest that it was what instantly attracted me to Kai), but she also has much more. What strikes me immediately is her lovely green eyes, that are so wide-set Kai almost appears feline in nature. Sure, her face runs the risk of being a little on the commercial side, but I also think she knows how deliver intensity where it counts. Take a look as Kai goes from editorial strong to Victoria's Secret Pink! in just two digitals.

That is the kind of inherent versatility that cannot easily be taught. I would however love to see a few more digitals with Kai's hair off her face so we could get a better sense of her profile. But from what I have seen, Kai has a fairly angular jawline that looks amazing on the runway. Sure, Kai is not my typical purely directional girl (where as Irene Amquandon would have been but I can't steal the thunder from MNP), but I think this 5'9" beauty has a ton of raw potential. Oh, and if anyone has a last name for Kai, I would greatly appreciate it.

Fresh Faced: Katerina Silhanova

I noticed that its been awhile since I profiled a blonde, and I have to say things were looking a little dark around here. So allow me to brighten things up for a moment and introduce the incomparable Katerina Silhanova from Bohemia Models. This 15 year old stunner from Czechoslovakia is every bit as beautiful as she is intense, which is a truly rare combination.

What makes Katerina so remarkable to me is how effortlessly her facial features vacillate between intense and serene. Her eyes are a bright shade of seaform green, and yet under her heavy brows they almost appear sullen. Her lips have that soft bee-stung quality, but yet the architecture of that bow-shape is quiet modern and dramatic. And I have always celebrated a contradiction in aesthetics where models are concerned.

If her face wasn't enough, Katerina's 6'0" frame is just as strong with a set of incredible 32-24-35 measurements. Not that there has ever been a shortage of bookable Czech models, but at the moment Katerina really stands out for me. Not to mention that her golden locks should help to brighten up the blog for a bit.

Remember the illusive Danielle Meyer that I profiled from Women Milan? Well thanks to some help from my dear comrade, Saracita, I finally realized why I couldn't find her anywhere; her real name is spelled Daniele Meier (or Daniele Meyer in at Modelwerk). Well thanks to this information I now know that Danielle's mother agency is Mega Models in Sao Paulo. Go figure, she's Brazilian.

Perhaps the most interesting part of this discovery is the write up that Danielle had in the January 2008 issue of L'Officiel Brazil. Now granted, I'm not one to always fall for the grandeur of the Marsh casting story (especially after recent events), but I still cannot help but be impressed with Danielle getting that much notice already.

Well now the bells and whistles that came with Danielle's portfolio at Women Milan make sense, especially considering the tremendous amount of success they had at last season's Prada show. Hopefully this marks the beginning of great things for Danielle's career.

Fresh Faced: Anita Nolsjo

Just a note before I get into this profile. I appreciate the comments that everyone has left, but I personally have a stance against public weight related discussion. It could be the tFS rules eating away at me, or it could be my personal opinion to not condemn the bodies of other people (especially those I don't personally know). Models are meant to be skinny, so how about we just leave it at that. Now, back to the real purpose of this blog, shining a spotlight on fresh faced beauty.

There's something about the newest batch of Scandinavian girls that I'm finding absolutely fascinating right now. Sweden has had no shortage of beautiful models in the past, but as industry tastes have thankfully changed, the faces coming out of this country have certainly become more dynamic as well; and MIKAS has had some great success in that department (read: Sara Blomqvist). My favorite girl on their roster has to be Anita Nolsjo, and her remarkable tomboyish charm.

The more and more I look at Anita, the more I'm impressed by the contrast between her sharp blue eyes, and the smooth, almost ovular, shape of her face. It's that contrast that lends a very acute androgyny to Anita's overall appeal, and yet she remains inherent beautiful from every angle.

In addition to her killer face, Anita is equally impressive at 5'11" and 33-25-35, and it seems as if I'm not the only one who's noticed. As I was Googling Anita for more information, I discovered the Maud and Penelope had also featured her recently. Well ladies, I'm on board where Anita is concerned. Oh, and if anyone wants to use the comment feature to suggest new faces to be profiled, feel free. I'm always interested in hearing and seeing what other people find beautiful.

Fresh Faced: Johanna

Here's an interesting question for whomever reads this: have you ever found yourself having a "model moment"? Perhaps I should explain that a little better. Have you ever had a moment in everyday life where you unleash some piece of model related information in an unrelated environment? You know, a moment where people see what a fashion freak you truly are? Well, Junior year of college in some bullshit level Journalism class, I had such a moment. The professor was lecturing about Estonia, and claimed that due to the state of their media institutions Estonia had no celebrities. Without thinking twice, I raised my hand and corrected him, stating that Carmen Kass is quiet a well known figure in that country and internationally. I don't believe that anyone else in the room knew who she was, and I looked like an idiot.

How does this relate to anything? Well, its the story that naturally comes to me every time I think of Estonia now, and since our latest girl is Estonian, I figured it was an appropriate introduction. Meet Johanna from E.M.A. Model Management:

Nearly everything about Johanna's looks is strong; from her chiseled jaw, to those intense brown eyes. And yet, Johanna still manages to have a very acute femininity to her appearance, that seems to work harmonious with her other features. Johanna's is the type of beauty, not unlike Magdalena Frackowiak, that seamlessly traverses between hard and soft in every photograph.

Not to mention that Johanna has an amazing body. She's standing tall at 5'11", with 33-25-35 measurements. Granted, there can only be one Carmen Kass, but looking through the current Estonian girls (namely Kelli Lumi and Karmen Pedaru), I can't help but think just how wrong my professor was years ago. There is certainly an opportunity for star power in that country, and Johanna just so happens to be a testament to that potential.

Fresh Faced: Brittany Bennett

Here's a perplexing question for you: does Brittany Bennett really constitute as a 'fresh face' upon her relaunch? If memory serves me right (and who am I kidding, its been so long I had to use Google to know for sure), Brittany was once represented by Chic and Next. Then again that was more like three years ago. As far as I can tell, Brittany's career never really took off the first time around, and that's enough for me to constitute her reintroduction into the modeling industry as fresh. After all, it seems to have worked for Aline Weber last season.

Fast forward a couple of years to find Brittany now sitting pretty at Priscilla's in Australia and on the development board at Women Management in Paris. Given her ingenious digitals from Women, I'm more than happy to have waited all this time to hear again from Brittany.

How I adore a new face who comes stocked with digitals and polaroids, before you're inundated with test shots. Otherwise, I might have missed Brittany (or perhaps baby Shalom Harlow is an appropriate nickname for her) and her incredible jawline. What stands out to me about Brittany is that contrast between the strong, glass cutting angles of her jaw, and those sleepy, doe-like eyes. Not to mention that Brittany has an equally strong 5'10.5" frame and 33-24-34 measurements.

So it remains to be seen whether or not Brittany's second time around will be the charm, but given brilliance of her relaunch, I would imagine that September could be a very lucrative time for her. Here's to Brittany becoming the next great Australian success story in the modeling industry.

Unfortunately, it has been awhile since there has been much news for one of my favorite Brits, Anna Heaton at First Model Management. And while her book is still stagnant with only polaroids and digitals, this latest batch is just too good not to post. I love how the soft quality perfectly compliments Anna's serene aesthetic. Supposedly, the story goes that First is taking their time to develop Anna given that she lives quite a distance from the city. While I hate to wait, I can't help but encourage them to take their time if it means a bigger and better future for Anna!

Fresh Faced: Auguste C.

The preamble to today's post is a lesson in ethnic heritage. Here's a fun fact for everyone: I'm actually half Lithuanian. Now unfortunately, my genes took a turn towards the Italian roots where height is concerned, but let me just say that Lithuanians are a tall people. Just look at my mother who stands at about 5'11". Why mention this, you ask? Because I always feel a sense of pride when I find a new Lithuanian girl that I like, even if I cannot speak a fucking word of the language. That being said, meet Auguste C. from Baltic Models in Lithuania:

Now I generally hate to make comparisons to already established models when introducing a new girls, but I cannot help but see an odd hybrid between Anna Kuchkina and my other favorite Lithuanian, Eva Arlauskaite, in her face. Comparisons aside, I really am smitten with Auguste's look. Perhaps its the quiet storm brewing behind her deep brown eyes? Or maybe that quaint sliver of a mouth? Either way, I feel like there is something very special about this girl.

Auguste is standing tall at a whopping 6'0" (though I'm sure we'll see that drop to 5'11" once she's signed), and very strong set of 32-25-35 measurements. Granted it's been a few years since the 'Lithuania Mania' that seemed to occur back in the first half of this decade, but with the recent success of Egle and Edita, one cannot help but think that agencies are scouting for their own Lithuanian star. Well as far as I can see, Auguste C. is currently one of the better new faces from this area. Needless to say I look forward seeing how Auguste's career develops!

Fresh Faced: Danielle Meyer

So the same way that it kills me to start a thread without a full name and a set of stats, I hate to blog about a girl without all of the facts. Or rather, I should say, as many facts as I can possibly gather. Case in point, Sana Belal ends up with a polaroid sheet from Ford, when I assumed she was going to Next. However, sometimes you just fall for that instantaneous appeal and are willing to suffer through the often tumultuous process of waiting for new information, and re-checking portfolios daily.

Well such is the case for Danielle Meyer at Women Management in Milan. Trust me here, I've tried every combination of words I can think of to try to find her mother agency, and have come up empty. So take note, if anyone knows anything that I don't, please feel free to share (it will be greatly appreciated). Anyhow, Danielle is one of the first new faces I've seen on the Women Milan site to come with a video in addition to her portfolio. So, it certainly seems as if they're quite proud of their latest signing, and with good reason.

Danielle is in possession of a very serious combination of tomboy charm (read: freckles!), and refined, classic features. Given that I'm such a sucker for a girl with red hair, I'm certainly loving how Danielle's shade of cherry locks give her a slightly darker twist. Also, if you have time I certainly suggest viewing the videos in her portfolio, because her smile is adorable.

Standing tall at 5'10", with a very strong set of 31.5-24-35 measurements, Danielle just comes across as the type of clean, strong, young girl that is very bookable. Granted, her portfolio is only full of a few average test shots at the moment, but I have high hopes for her development in that field. Until then, these polaroids are speaking volumes about the potential of Danielle Meyer, and Women Milan seems to believe in her just as much.

In Bloom: Sana Belal

When your very projected image is meticulously managed and promoted and sold on a daily basis, sometimes its hard to remember what a model might look like her natural habitat. Take for example my surprise when I discovered that Kamila Filipcikova was sporting a serious eyebrow piercing, or Abbey Lee Kershaw's adorable nose ring. Those little personal touches seems incredibly special when you consider that the modeling machine seems to want an increasingly blank, depersonalized slate with each passing girl.

Where is this all going? Well, I've been watching Sana Belal at 1st Option in Denmark for a few weeks now, but only after her debut on Next's PhotoASP account did I look back and realize that she was also sporting a facial piercing in her stunning digitals. I love the very idea that beyond that sweet, alien-esque face might lie a rebel without a cause somewhere in Sana!

What a subtle, yet unique, personal touch for a model. Combine that with the continued need for more diverse races on the runways (though I would like to come to place where racial diverse models don't even need that preface), and Sana certainly could be a girl to watch. With those beautiful, deep, wide-set eyes and that gorgeous skin tone, Sana appears to be a girl unlike any other this moment. Not to mention with her runway ready 5'10" and 30-24-32 frame, I cannot help but think that Sana would look right at home on a MxMJ runway come September. Of course, that is assuming that Next continues to successful promote their new faces (read: Karmen Pedaru for Chloé!).

So lets review here: Beautiful, unique alien-esque face? Check. Incredible runway body? Check. A much needed boost of diversity (other than Chanel and Jourdan)? Check! I think Next might very well have a great new talent on their hands, and I for one could not be happier to see Sana Belal already signed.

In Bloom: Holynde

It's certainly been awhile since I updated my little dog and pony show that I call a blog. Miss me? Well I was busy jetting back and forth between home and New York for a hugely important interview, for a position that I would lucky to land. I won't say much more because this never was intended to be about me, but I'm quite excited.

However, in the world of new faces it is certainly an exciting time. Agencies are starting to rearrange their boards after last season's shows and campaign bookings, and new faces are being signed and prepped for their runway debuts in September. One of my favorite new signings as of late is certainly Holynde from Richard's Models in Vancouver, who was recently placed with Ford in New York. Holynde is strong and angular with those very poignant Amanda Laine-esque eyebrows, and has a body that just does not seem to quit (read: check out her abs!).

Oh man, there is just such an incredible and yet quite intensity in Holynde's face that I find really resonates with me. This contrast between natural charm and stoic features should certainly serve Holynde well, especially since Ford seems to be on the rise again. I have no idea how she'll do come September, but at 5'11" and with 32-25-34.5 measurements, I would certainly book her for quite a few directional shows if I was in the position. And considering that she's Canadian, I'm sure Holynde would look right at home on a Rad Hourani runway in the future.

Anyhow, I'm glad to be back and once again fixating on my favorite hobbie (besides chain-smoking).

German Special: Two For The Price Of One

I suppose this title is a bit misleading, since I'm obviously not selling anything. However, just placate me here and enjoy the kitschy deli lingo for a moment. Generally I only blog about one new face at a time, so as to make each post unique, or something equally sentimental. But what happens when you have two gorgeous, fresh faced German girls that both deserve some attention? Well, my solution is apparently to use a trite expression and group them together in one very special, very German post.

First up is the beautiful Natalie H., from Iconic Management in Berlin. Sure, Iconic has a bevy of beauties on their development board at the moment, but what impressed me about Natalie was the strength and intensity behind her eyes. Honestly, a stare that piercing is a very rare quality for any model, let alone a fresh face.

Now combine Natalie's steely gaze with her timeless bone structure and unique nose, and her appeal becomes even more brilliant. Standing at 5'9.5" with 32.5-23-34.5 measurements Natalie comes across as the kind of strong editorial girl that most agencies should be excited to mold and develop.

Our second German delight is the impeccable Reneé from Place Models in Hamberg. Don't let her soft, quirky aesthetic fool you, Reneé is definitely capable of delivering an equally impressive gaze. Perhaps its that juxtaposition of soft and hard that makes her all the more unique, because I simply adore the way her mischievous stare seems to betray the rest of her mouse-like features.

I'm not sure if this reference point will make sense to anyone, but Reneé has that very unique Heathers appeal to her. You know what I mean, totally an A+ student on the surface, but more than capable of breaking a few hearts before class. Trust me, it's more an observation of her projected attitude, than a visual reference to Shannen Doherty. Either way, Reneé is standing tall at 5'10" with a textbook case of 34-24-35 measurements, and the type of unique face that many an influential designer have been known to adore (and yes I'm looking at you Miuccia!).

Well there you have it, my first double-feature on my two favorite German girls at the moment: Natalie H., and Reneé. Enjoy!

In Bloom: Charlotte O'Donnell

Elite certainly seems to be getting their footing back. After years of riding the success of Coco Rocha on the runways they delivered Karlie Kloss and Ali Stephens two seasons ago, and finally broke the Top Model curse with Alice Burdeu last season. Oops, are we still not supposed to mention that? Anyhow, it should come as no surprise that I'm always interested to see what kind of new girls they're signing to their expansive board. Well, it appears as if Elite is keeping their talent in the family and relocating the incredible Charlotte O'Donnell from Elite Toronto down to the development board in NYC (yet another wonderful offering from Canada!).

There's a very expensive looking serenity to Charlotte's appeal, especially in those sparkling blue eyes, that reminds me of Giedre Dukauskaite to certain degree. More over, I love the way her wavy hair perfectly frames her long, structured, and yes slightly freckled, face. Charlotte definitely has a very particular aesthetic that I could see looking right at home on a Marc by Marc runway, or Teen Vogue editorial in the future.

Standing tall at 5'11", Charlotte is all the more bookable with her ridiculous set of 32-24-33 measurements that should make her a great runway girl in the future. Some girls can make even the most calm and peaceful features appear new and interesting again; Charlotte is definitely a part of that elite (I'm really sorry, but the play on words was just too tempting) group. I for one am eagerly anticipating her development!

Fresh Faced: Janelle L'Hirondelle

Oh, Canada. There are plenty of times when people make jokes about Canada being our forgotten attic to the north. As far as I'm concerned, Canada is much more than that. After all, in high school it was also the place you could go to start drinking and gambling three whole years before you could at home. No one else had 'Windsor Weekends' growing up? Just me?

Anyhow, I digress. I like to consider Canada more of a non-stop model making institution that always has something new and refreshing to share with the rest of the world. Thus, it should come as no surprise that Mode Models, the agency that brought us Heather Marks, Julia Dunstall, Johanna Strickland, and Meghan Collison, would have plenty of talent waiting in the wings. Take for instance the uniquely charming appeal of Janelle L'Hirondelle:

Are you seeing the brilliantly executed expression behind her eyes? That very sullen and jaded expression works perfectly to form a sharp juxtaposition with her light hair and eyes, and her gamine frame. Sometimes it really is all about attitude, and as far as I can tell from her polaroids, Janelle is more than capable of delivering in that department. From serene, to aloof and back to disillusioned in a matter of three polaroids, she truly is a girl after my own heart.

At 5'9" Janelle comes across as a girl with much more to offer than just a few extra inches in height department (she's also boasting a killer set of 33-23-33.5 measurements). So, let us all take a moment to thank Canada, and the impeccable collective eye of the team at Mode Models of course, for continuing to provide new and refreshing faces.

Supreme Shifts

Do I really need to preface this post with another explanation of why I appreciate the branding and concise image of the models at Supreme Management? I thought not. Anyhow, the first part of this post is more of an update where Joice Maria Monback is concerned. I've been anxiously awaiting the chance to see how she photographs under Paul Rowland's direction, and I could not be happier with the results:

Joice comes across beautifully serene and emotive, and yet those bright amber colored eyes give her an unforeseen feline twist.What's more surprising to me are the recent shifts occurring on their board. It's always disappointing when a girl is dropped, and today five faces disappeared from the website (though I would highly doubt that any of their careers are close to over). However, in more surprising news, one of last season's breakout stars, Martha Streck made her debut on the Supreme board. I for one had always imagined that she would go to Women, but after seeing her polaroids, I completely understand the decision. It's all about the intensity in her eyes and the way Martha embraces her fiery locks.

Long live the unique Brazilian girl. Years after Gisele came and invented the Brazilian bombshell, and the Supreme triplets of Carolina, Caroline and Daiane challenged that concept to its very core, I find it refreshing to see that Brazil still has plenty of new takes on beauty to present to the world. And with the new vacancies on the Supreme board, its only a matter of time until even more intelligent takes on beauty will be presented (Willamijn Koppelman for one, and perhaps Dasha Bichevina?). More than anything, I look forward to even more polamania on the Supreme front. Cheers!

ETA: I stand somewhat corrected. Or at least I'm hypothesizing that something different happened. First off, the point of this blog is not to gossip. However, I did make mention that five girls were "dropped" by Supreme, by which I meant they were no longer on the website. After some sleuthing with Vicky, I came to discover that they all shared the same booker. Given the buzz about this new super-agency looming, I suppose we'll be seeing them soon?

Fresh Faced: Suzie Bird

So, if an onomatopoeia is the formation of a word based on sounds, do we really have any equally exclusive word for when things are named after what they look like? Well in the case of Suzie Bird at Elite Paris, I suppose I'm just going to call her last name apropos, as there is something decidedly avian about the shape of her insanely high cheekbones, nose and lips. Yes, there are plenty of other models with similar pointed, bird-like features, but what truly is holding my attention is what Suzie does with her eyes. There is a very quite and stoic strength behind her big brown eyes that comes across as very confident in photographs.

More over, I'm really enjoying the subtle androgyny that Elite is building upon in these polaroids. There is something decidedly Jil Sander about the combination of a clean, strong, angular face and clean lines of the clothes Suzie is wearing. Anyhow, Suzie's debut on the Elite website has come without statistics, but from what I can tell her body is looking quite bookable (albeit about maybe 5'9.5"?) and her portfolio is actually quite nice for such a newcomer.

I for one am looking forward to watching Suzie's development process unfold over at Elite, and presumably Ford in New York, which will hopefully include more of those avant-garde polaroids that I'm so fond of. In any case, Suzie is fast becoming one of my favorite faces on that Elite Paris development board which is already stacked with potential.

Edited to add: Just a brief editorial here, but I would like to note that no modelista in the online community ever truly discovers a girl; we're not in that realm. However, when I'm not the first to come across a model online, I am at least wise and considerate enough to credit and thank those who did. To me, there is nothing more underhanded than passing off someone's work and ideas as your own.

In Bloom: Laura de Lannoy

Here's a little story for everyone before I delve into this. Once upon a time, on the last day of 2007, I spent the morning online with Penelope from MNP, searching through the bevy of new faces presented during the reopening of the Way Model Management website. Generally, Penny tends to prefer a slightly softer face, compared to my tastes for a more intense look. However, when our tastes meet (and Way seems to have a habit of making that happen), the results are laced with enthusiasm on both parts. So imagine my excitement when I saw Brazilian Laura de Lannoy who seemingly epitomizes the convergence of our tastes as she's both youthful and intense behind her eyes, and all around stunner at 5'11" and 31-24-35.

Fast forward to this morning, almost three months afterwards and not an update to be had. I was actually planning on profiling Laura sometime this week, so imagine my surprise when I saw Laura profiled on O2W this morning! Plus, it turns out that Penelope's initial guess that Laura would end up at Marilyn was correct after all. Though I secretly loath how archaic Marylin's website is, their board is finally starting to come back together again, and Laura should make a great addition.

She's tall, youthful, and has the devious quality to her stare that I will always find incredibly alluring. It's just again reassuring to know that other people are seeing the same potential that you do. I just cannot wait to see how Laura develops under the management at Marilyn

Fresh Faced: Paulina Szulda

You have to hand it to the modeling industry for continuing to keep things fresh, season after season. Just when you might have thought that Next was going to continue force feeding us Catherine McNeil fever, they bounce back to expertly deliver Abbey Lee Kershaw and Karmen Pedaru last season. Oh, and they bought out Karlie Kloss' contract from Elite. So it should be no surprise that I've been looking to see which of their new faces would leave me waiting for September. Well that girl just so happens to be the incredible Polish beauty, Paulina Szulda from Gaga Models.

There's something enchanting about the way Paulina's perfectly bow-shaped lips mimic the angles of her strong jawline. Combine that with those piercing, moody blue eyes, and her 5'1o" frame and 33-24-35 measurements, and Paulina could very well be one of the most promising new faces at Next this moment. Also, thank god some agencies are still providing these basic digitals for first impressions. I know I mentioned this before, but I obviously prefer to see beauty in the raw before I have to see it airbrushed to all hell. It also makes a transformation like this below, all the more impressive.

Well I for one am entirely sold on Paulina's potential. Plus, I cannot help but think that Paulina would look right at home on the Jil Sander runways. Hopefully the next few months will be friendly to Paulina's development, because she certainly has all the raw goods.

First of all, I love O2W a lot. No, really a lot. They stand for new faces, and enjoy the development process as much as I do. Plus, their track record is impeccable and taste level in models is uncanny. Needless to say, I was somewhat surprised when I presented my discovery of Aneta Bielecka to Julio, only to find him equally impressed.

More than anything, I'm just happy to finally have a last name for this beautiful girl. Well, that and I'm pleasantly surprised to see how motivated and tenacious Aneta was in starting her own career. Some may call it conceited when a model submits her own pictures (i.e. the start of Doutzen's career many a year ago), but I call it motivated. To know that you have that special something is not arrogant, so much as it displays a sense of confidence and an understanding of the business.

I would be lying if I claimed to not be the slightest bit satisfied that my taste passed the test at O2W. After all, its reassuring (though not necessary, of course) when your eye for talent, so to speak, is confirmed. Perhaps this is only meaningful to me after not landing the job of my dreams a week ago, but it is truly an honor to be called a "vigilant colleague" by people who share the same enthusiasm and love for this field.

Anyhow, thanks to their sensational connections at O2W, Julio was kind enough to share with everyone the background story on Aneta:

After one of our more vigilant colleagues brought Aneta Bielecka to our attention, we contacted our wonderful friend Gosia at Avant Management Warsaw for details. Now 17, this Polish girl from Wroclaw was discovered last year when she took the proverbial bull by the horns. Aneta did what any 180cm tall gorgeous girl with “big blue hypnotizing eyes” would do. She got on the internet and sent in some photos. Of course Gosia was amazed. So much so that she trekked to see Aneta in person and just knew Avant “had to have her.”

It is hard not to state the obvious. That height combined with 81cm-60cm-90cm measurements merits thick Sharpie check marks in the plus column. Oh but there’s more. Turns out she’s graceful too. And in the last few months her development has come along nicely, building on an already impressive confidence that will be “super on the runways.”

Aneta’s interests include photography and painting. She’s athletic as well and will be glad to take you on in her two favorite sports, a game of volleyball or a tennis match. Her dream? The cover of American Vogue.

Go for it, we say! Thanks so much to Gosia for her enthusiastic assistance.

In Bloom: Ryan

By far, one of my favorite features in a model is androgyny. Generally I prefer that those features show in their face, but I suppose I'm still gullible enough to fall for a girl with a boy's name. So it goes without saying that I would feature a girl named Ryan from Folio in Montreal. Not only that, but this latest Canadian import just debuted on the DNA website today. Given my new fascination with wider faces on models, Ryan is coming across very bookable to me. Those wide cheekbones perfectly offset her luminous blue eyes, and intense stare.

What impresses me thus far about Ryan, is her ability to give a varied and yet suitable range of expressions in her face, so early in her career. Her above photos are strong and crisp enough to make her future on the runways look quite promising, well that and her 5'10" frame and 34-24.5-35 measurements. Speaking of which, was that Ryan who shot the Rad Hourani Look Book? I mean clearly that's a Rad Hourani look in the third image above. If anyone knows, I would love confirmation.

Anyhow, her softer shots demonstrate Ryan's porcelain skin and bright eyes, making her a strong candidate for beauty editorials in the future.

The question is now, whether DNA can keep her career focused on the luxury, editorial markets because some of her more commercial shots (while nice to building a portfolio) seem to be selling Ryan a little short of her potential. I strongly believe that DNA will be coming back into their own next season, and hopefully Ryan will be at the head of the class. Well, either her or Lizelot Rippen if the partnership between Viva and DNA remains as strong as it has been.

An Aesthetic Shift For Elite

Sure, this blog is primarily focused on showcasing new and developing faces in the modeling industry, but to ignore individual agencies and not showcase interesting developments on that front would be irresponsible. So I wanted to take the opportunity to highlight a shift that I'm beginning to notice over at Elite Models Paris, particularly in their development board.

It should come as no surprise that the new partnership between Ford Models in New York and Elite Models in Paris has been producing some strong talented on both fronts. I've been quite enamored with the selection of faces on the Elite's development board for awhile now, and it seems they are starting to really come into their own as far as aesthetics go. Take a look at these recent polaroids for Natasha Belebrovik, Loris Kraemerh, Jennifer Messelier, and Louise Houdart:

Do you see what I see? There is a very vintage, but decidedly youthful and spontaneous quality to this styling that is beginning to clearly define these girls. Look, it goes without saying that Paul Rowland's polaroids for Supreme revolutionized the impact of one of the most basic elements of marketing a new face. Copy cats of the Supreme method have usually paled in comparison, at least until this shift at Elite Paris. The styling is avant-garde without being pretentious, and that achievement should not be overlooked. My favorite choice thus far has to be Jennifer Messelier's bow above, but I am also quite fond of this bee piece used again for Messelier and Hana Jirickova:

I love that retro feel in terms of color and quality, juxtaposed with the playful and fresh styling. As seemingly minute decisions such as these become more repetitive, I cannot help but wonder if Elite Paris is starting to carve out its own branded image (or better yet, when this method will be implemented on Adama Diallo)? Anyhow, in an industry that revolves around selling image, and making it a tangible, lucrative commodity, a strong marketing strategy goes a long way.

Fresh Faced: Aine Rose Campell-He

I apologize for the weekend delay in featuring fresh faces (there's some alliteration, huh?) but sometimes mixed drinks served in fishbowls take president over internet ramblings. Anyhow, I think Aine should more than make up for the delay.

Holy hell Storm, you just managed to take my breath away. I'm actually still recovering from the sight of the uber-gorgeous and exotic Aine. With eyes so far apart they might as well be on the side of her head, and that beautiful shape to her face, I'm sold on these digitals alone. Aine comes across, to me at least, as one of those rare girls that could seamlessly transition between beauty campaigns and the most directional of castings.

The thing I love most about Aine, aside from that breathtaking face, is the global quality to her beauty. Sure, her ethnicity is not as pronounced as say Han Hye Jin, but Aine's features should serve her, and her management team well in both Asian and European markets. Well, that and her outstanding 5'10" frame and 32-24-35 measurements.

As I said above, her flawless blend of the most beautiful features with some decidedly directional features makes Aine a very unique girl at this moment. With the talent of the Storm management team, in combination with her intrinsic charm, I am eager to see what time has in store for Aine.

Raising Arizona Muse

I'm not the first, and I doubt I will be the last, to make that play on words where Next's Arizona Muse is concerned. In fact, I believe there was already an editorial done with her under the same title as this post. Then again, with a model moniker as great as 'Arizona' (real name Zoe Muse), the clever titles are inevitable.

If the truth be told, what initially drew me to this girl actually was the flower-power name, and that 90's vibe of course. Even though Arizona is not as inherently unconventional as some of my other favorites, she certainly possesses one of my favorite qualities: attitude. She has that particular look in her eyes that spells trouble; and I love that devious stare.

No, it's certainly not the same Cher Horowitz feeling that Kori Richardson evokes, but Airzona's appeal is somewhere between Heathers and Jawbreaker, with an Ali Larter twist. Regardless of how you chalk it up, this native of Santa Fe, New Mexico, seems to be doing something right, as she has already shot for the latest issue of French Revue de Modes:

The more I look at Arizona, the more I wonder if I've mistaken some of her free-spirited appeal for devious, when its in fact an abundance of confidence. After all, for someone so fresh in the industry, Arizona is beginning to look like a seasoned professional. Keep up the good work, because it looks like Arizona might be ready for big things come S/S 09.

Fresh Faced: Joice Monback

I would be a horrible liar if I ever claimed to be anything less than a devotee of the work that Paul Rowland and his entire team have done in creating the Supreme brand. And yes, at this point it is a brand. When a casting director books a girl from Supreme there is a certain lifestyle and unspoken 'cool' that comes attached with that girl, and in turn with the designer's brand. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a simple blind follower. Actually, I have a deep seeded appreciation for the manner in which their models have challenged my ideas of beauty ever since Autumn Hyle and the late Heather Bratton (and yes, I am well aware that the history dates back before those two girls). Whether or not the Supreme girls are your particular taste, you must hand it to that entire team for marketing interesting, intelligent beauty and art so purposefully (and so fucking consistently too), throughout the modeling industry.

That declaration aside, after the strong, harsh beauty of past, a majority of their new signings possess an understated beauty with a twist, and Joice Maria Monback is no exception. Hot on the heels of breakout star Natalia Schueroff and doe-eyed Thaysse Ricci, fellow Brazilian Joice has a serene appeal which makes her somewhat alien features all the more appealing.

Hailing from the new redesigned Ten Management in Brazil, I have hopes that Joice will eventually make a strong debut on the runways come September. Until then, she has plenty of time to develop, and in that process I cannot wait to see what her polaroids for Supreme will look like.

Joice may be a bit short, for my personal tastes, at only 5'9.5", but that didn't hinder Natalia from appearing at quite an enviable list of shows this past season. Combine the uncanny management capabilities of Supreme with Joice's intrinsic ethereal appeal, and she could do quite well in the future.

Fresh Faced: Lisa Watts

I love it when a girl's portfolio is just full of polaroids and digitals (read: Meghan Collison's original portfolio with Supreme)! Yes, eventually you need to see test shots in order to understand how a particular model photographs, and to build her portfolio. However, the polaroid, introductory stage seems to be so egregiously overlooked (or at least hidden from the viewing public) by some agencies, leaving only an airbrushed, over-edited version of that model. This is precisely why it was so refreshing to come across Elite Copenhagen's (in partnership with Scandinavian Models, of course) Lisa Watts this afternoon.

I suppose I should disclose that I am indeed a sucker where redheaded models are concerned, and Lisa is no exception. Speaking of redheads, is anyone else getting the strongest 'Maggie Rizer reincarnate' vibe the more they look at Lisa? It's definitely apparent in fullness of her cheeks and shape of her eyes. Similarities aside, Lisa's auburn hair makes those bright blue eyes sparkle, and seems to perfectly frame her face shape.

Did I mention that Lisa is also equipped with a 5'11" frame and a quite enviable set of 33-23-33 measurements? She may look like Maggie Rizer's little sister, but Lisa Watts is definitely a girl with enough raw potential to stand on her own. Isn't it wonderful what a handful of natural (not to be confused with softly lit, woodlands shots) images can do to really demonstrate the potential of a particular model?

In Bloom: Aneta

I'm coming to the realization that part of the beauty of this 'blogging' experience, is that I can hype (in my own amateur ways) whomever I want, without waiting for someone else to mention a particular model. Sure, that should be fairly obvious, but it's none the less empowering in some twisted way.

Can you remember the last time a new face just stopped you dead in your tracks? The last time you were really enraptured by a new girl? Personally, its been awhile since I've seen anyone nearly as unique at Aneta from Avant Models in Warsaw. Honestly, I have no preexisting reference points for how to best describe Aneta, other than captivating and commanding.

Aneta is one of those rare cases where my eyes cannot decide what to look first. Should I stare into those big doe-like eyes, with that sullen 'Corpse Bride' glaze over them? Perhaps I should fixate on that incredible face shape, or the smallness of her mouth? Regardless of where you look first, I have a feeling that you might have trouble turning away.

Plus, with the success that Women and Supreme have had signing from Avant (think Kasia Struss, Kasia Zych, and Yulia Kharlapanova), you cannot help but think bigger and better things might be in store for Aneta in the future.

Fresh Faced: Anna Heaton

In a recent conversation with my dear (and far too connected and professional!) friend Vicky, we were discussing our model tastes. I made a passing reference that it takes a very special type of blonde to capture my attention. She replied that she had certainly noticed that. Well, I was not under the impression that my hypercritical nature regarding blondes was that evident. I suppose it has something to do with growing up in America, where the atypical blonde, Playboy girl is the personified paragon of beauty. Given how much I tend to fixate on the hard and directional beauty, blondes have a way of coming across too commercial to me, with some notable exceptions (Kori Richardson, Cristina Jurach, Inna Pilipenko, etc).

However, a natural, ethereal and intelligent type of blonde will always be appreciated in my books. Take for example the uncanny and serene Anna Heaton at First Model Management:

The moodiness behind her eyes, and that austere British sensibility makes Anna worth more than just a second look. Actually, come to think of it, I was the second one to lay my eyes on Anna, as the wonderfully gifted Maud and Penelope featured her on MNP just before I discovered her for myself. Either way, at 5'11" and with some enviable 32-24-35 measurements, I have high hopes for Ms. Heaton.

Given the success that First had during London Fashion Week with Regina Shnizer, I can only hope that some more of those casting directors will be searching through the new faces at First to find Anna primed and ready for her break. Supreme, I'm looking in your direction on this one.

The Dangerously Cute Amy Post

So, what can you say about SPS Model Management's Amy Post? She's that sweet and innocent type of cute that's laced with enough poison behind her eyes to eternally keep your attention. Generally speaking, 'cute' rarely does it for me. There has to be something extra to that aesthetic to really enrapture me, and like I said, Amy certainly possesses that. I came across her portfolio early this morning, only to realize that I had seen one her images used in a graphic on O2W (and a quick bit of appreciation for all the impeccable work that they do over there). Well apparently I was behind the times were Ms. Post is concerned as she received another mention on their page today. Take a look:

Now, as much as I would love to take credit for this description of Amy, no one other than Julio would be able to come up with such a fitting analogy: "Quite an expressive range, and she's build like a runaway teen who discovers she has mutant superpowers." Was that a Runaways reference hidden under there? Truth be told, she does have that strong and innocent combination that Joss Whedon seems to find so powerful. Anyhow, take a peak at the rest of her emotive range:

Amy just proves that when a girl just has something, you're willing to look past, and eventually evolve your own personal aesthetic preferences. I for one cannot wait to see what is in store for young Amy in the future.

In Bloom: Florence Desmidt

I suppose there really is no sense in trying to be diplomatic about this, as I think I've said on numerous occasions that the casting at Jil Sander is usually my favorite each season. More over, its most closely in tune with my own aesthetic, or preferred aesthetic I should say. There is something about the seamless combination of clean features, with just enough quirkiness to keep your interest, that has always appealed to me.

Where is this all going you ask? Well, that juxtaposition between the clean and the unusual is what I'm getting from Dominique's new discovery Florence Desmidt at the moment. This Belgian girl has one of those classically poised face shapes, but the tint of her skin and those eyes make her quite unique.

Given the recent success of my other favorite Belgian, Jill Bauwens, perhaps there are agencies currently looking for their own Belgian bombshell. Hell, any agency just looking for another strong face, with a great 6'0" tall runway-ready frame I should add, would certainly have to consider Florence.

The Incomparable Dominika Zieba

I have to preface this post, and give credit where its due, as the wonderfully keen eye of Bianca at tFS first introduced me to Dominika (or Dodo, depending on which moniker sticks) at PMST. After awhile, you run the risk of new faces blending together, but nothing could be further from the truth where this girl is concerned. See for yourself:

Amazing, no? Honestly, it has been awhile since a face this fresh and undeveloped has had this much of a long lasting impression on me. Hopefully the bidding war has commenced for who will represent Dominika, because I honestly feel as if she is one of the best faces of 2008. Hands down.

Someone sign her please (and yes, Women Group I'm looking in your direction for this one), because Dominika's haunting mix of directional, quirky features and those expressive eyes, is a truly a force with which to be reckoned.

Fresh Faced: Malin L.

I supposed I should make note that I have my own lexicon when it comes to describing a particular model. Some call it needlessly flowery and pretentious. Those who know me understand that my bat-shit crazy approach to speech at times, is nothing more than an attempt to articulate all the free flowing thoughts in my mind at once.

That being said, I'm infatuated at the moment with Stockholmsgruppen's new face, Malin L. She epitomizes some of my favorite aesthetics all in one beautiful package, with those sullen, disinterested eyes and her devious stare. I have always been a fan of any girl whose very nonchalance commands your attention.

Incredible face, no? To make Malin even more enviable, she stands at 180cms which should make her more runway ready. Clearly, IMG Paris has had past success casting from Stockholmsgruppen, but I feel as if Malin would be great addition to any directional development board. I cannot waist to see what is in store for this alluring young girl.

Another Fucking Blog?

Go ahead, ask the obvious question. Another blog about models? Well, yes, I guess I have fallen victim to the desire to broadcast my own dribble across a larger medium. Hey, don't fault me. In our modern times everyone has an outlet to project their enthusiastic opinions, and perhaps this will be mine. If the truth be told, I'm just a disenfranchised modelista (and that has such a better tone than 'modelphile' or 'modelizer,' both of which, in my opinion, come across needlessly perverse) who has grown tired of other so called model watchers and fashion enthusiasts alike namedropping only the upper-echelon of models in order to appear 'in the know.' The fact of the matter is that blindly mentioning Gemma Ward, Agyness Deyn, or Lara Stone does not make one appear well-versed; instead, for me, it connotes the exact opposite. These fleeting and passing mentions come across as second thoughts. Where were these mentions during Lara's infamous Sisley campaign? Did we simply overlook Jourdan Dunn's two other seasons until she appeared on the Prada runway? More over, this cannot possibly make one appreciative of the work it takes to get from industry unknown, to Gemma-like iconic status. Sure, sometimes it just takes a Russell Marsh exclusive booking for Prada to send your status skyrocketing, but for most new faces, that is not always the case.

Hey, I'm not trying to take away any joy from the success that our modern day, neo-supers have created. In fact, I could not be happier to see that people are developing an interest in models again. I just think that if you want to be informed, there is a certain responsibility to understand the starting point for those careers. So, I present The Fresh Face in hopes of creating recognition for these up-and-comers; those aspirational young girls who could very well be on their way to bigger and better things. Take from it what you will...

That being said, my opinion certainly does not matter more than anyone else's, and my opinion is mine alone and does not reflect the views of any agency, casting director, fashion house, management team, booker, or model that is discussed in this blog. Faux legal bullshit aside, these really are just my opinions. I would like to think that I have a fairly keen eye for talent and potential, certainly not as tested and bankable as professionals in the scouting field, but proven in my own amateur mediums.

Regardless of how professionally inexperienced I may be, this is my passion (and I wish I was speaking hyperbolically). The esoteric idea that a single signing can shape and mold what casual observers may consider beautiful is a powerful and aspirational concept to me. I still remember the first time I saw Kristen McMenamy (and yes at the time, I was way behind the learning curve, but I was also in high school). I was simply amazed by the angles of her cheekbones, and the sharp contrast between her androgynous qualities against those luminous eyes. Everything about her beauty was conflicting with what the majority of us, myself included, were taught to accept as beautiful. After that encounter, I really began to appreciate the plethora of features and aesthetics that can be conceived as beautiful. For me, that 'meeting' epitomized the aesthetic power of modeling. That being said, my taste will not always be akin to that of others, and I'm fine with that. I just hope that other people can be tolerate of that potential discrepancy.
